Another CountryBy Frazmeliz SuarezThrough the Looking Glass 2005Each event for me was like a mystery back inThe Dominican Republic in theDays when I was a child only five years old,Just beginning to understand things I didNot really understand. I went to schoolAt this time surrounded by all thatWas curiosity to me,And only asked, "Why?" Everyday to school I Went with a classmate-curious about The children and how they went to school: Some walking with classmates, some with their mothers,And some with their tough skinned fathers. The blue sky shone above me with beautifulMornings when all the children formed linesTo sing the D.R National AnthemBefore starting the classes. I wascurious about the way we sang theAnthem of my country sweetly everyMorning, and how we looked when we were singingThe anthem of patriotism.A nice journey it was going to school Walking with neighbors and classmates, Every single morning being an excellent student andPlaying with my friends. These were theNicest days of my life when my father Was coming to school, bringing me my lunch During my lunch hour- sharp. For me this was the glory, not knowing the Bad things in life, and being an innocent child thatThought everything was good in life.
