Over and Over Again - Post Traumatic StressIn recent months, the media has been flooded with stories of tremendous random violence—gunmen raiding schools, increased shootings and attacks in the inner cities, and the nonstop stories of deaths in Iraq. When the media attention on these events fades, the trauma caused to the victims still lingers, often for the long term. These victims may re-live and re-experience their ordeal repeatedly in their minds—through nightmares, flashbacks, memories, panic attacks or frightening thoughts. The most prominent victims that have vocalized their struggle with post-traumatic stress have been the victims of World Trade Center attacks and the Columbine school shooting.
